SHREWSBURY, Massachusetts – Shrewsbury Electric and Cable Operations (SELCO) has released its first-ever annual Sustainability Report. The 2021 Sustainability Report consists of three main areas: Energy & Environment, Social Responsibility, and Governance & Management.
The ongoing transformation of the energy industry coupled with shifts in consumer expectations have increased calls for improved transparency and accountability from both public and private utilities. In an effort to measure performance in all areas of sustainability, set goals, and track progress in achieving decarbonization, SELCO’s annual Sustainability Report will provide a one-stop reference and overview of the many activities and efforts underway within the organization. The report can be viewed online at SELCO.ShrewsburyMA.gov/sustainability.
SELCO’s 2021 Sustainability Report details progress made toward the goal of net-zero carbon emissions in alignment with our Power Supply Policy, establishes baselines for performance in a variety of areas stemming from strategic electrification, and identifies goals for future improvement. An update of this report will be released annually to showcase SELCO’s progress and goals relating to sustainability, decarbonization, and electrification as well as governance, transparency, social responsibility, and environmental justice.
SELCO is working to position itself on the leading edge of technology and policy adoption to drive effective decarbonization. We believe a carbon-free power supply will serve as the foundation for a major energy system transformation within Shrewsbury and beyond. This report is just one of the many ways SELCO is supporting a clean energy future through program design, education, outreach, accountability, and transparency.
