Shrewsbury Electric and Cable Operations (SELCO) is proud to announce its recognition as a certified Electric Vehicle Adoption Leader (EVAL), achieving the highest designation of “Platinum” status for its main office at 100 Maple Avenue. SELCO also earned “Gold” status for its Headend at 15 Parker Road and “Silver” status for the Service Area at 30 Municipal Drive.
The EVAL certification, a national workplace charging program, recognizes employers and organizations that promote clean transportation and sustainable commuting. SELCO’s achievement reflects its commitment to reducing emissions, empowering EV adoption, and driving progress toward its ambitious net zero goal by 2032.
“At SELCO, sustainability is at the core of our mission, and pursuing EVAL certification underscores our dedication to clean transportation,” said Christopher Roy, General Manager. “By offering workplace charging and community incentives, we aim to empower employees and customers to embrace electric vehicles and lead the way in decarbonization efforts. It demonstrates our commitment to creating a sustainable future and reinforces SELCO’s role as a leader in clean transportation and environmental stewardship”
SELCO’s EV initiatives include:
- EV Charging Infrastructure: SELCO has installed 36 EV charging ports across six locations in Shrewsbury and 10 additional ports dedicated to its fleet.
- Employee Workplace Charging Program: SELCO employees benefit from discounted charging rates during work hours, encouraging EV adoption and sustainable commuting.
- Fleet Electrification: SELCO’s current fleet includes six electric vehicles, with plans for further expansion.
- Connected Homes Program: 121 EV-owning customers participate in SELCO’s Connected Homes program, allowing brief charging adjustments during peak hours to help keep rates low.
- Community Incentives: Since launching its EV programs in 2017, SELCO has awarded 443 EV purchase rebates and 230 EV charger rebates, making clean transportation more affordable for Shrewsbury residents.
The EVAL certification process evaluates organizations on their efforts to promote clean transportation through workplace charging, carpooling options, public transportation incentives, and sustainable commuting initiatives. SELCO’s achievements highlight its leadership in reducing emissions while supporting a cleaner, more sustainable future for the Shrewsbury community.
